121511_tru_awardsThe Thompson Rivers University Foundation awarded more than $18,000 to 15 TRU students at its annual reception at TRU Williams Lake last week. In Williams Lake businesses, corporations, organizations and individuals have established 14 donor annual awards and endowment funds to benefit of local TRU students.

For 29 years the TRU Foundation has been supporting students and the university. During this time, the Foundation through the generosity of its donors has built an endowment portfolio of $10.9 million dollars. Last year the Foundation raised just over $3 million from community donors to go toward student scholarships, financial need awards, capital projects and programs.  

Jordan Archibald from 150 Mile House won the Williams Lake Employee Bursary for $253.48 and the TRU Foundation Open Bursary for $550.00.

Rickey-Dean Baptiste from Williams Lake won the Spectra Energy Willliams Lake Award for $1,250.00, and Tamara Brigden from Lac la Hache won the K-40 & Kinsmen Clubs of Williams Lake Bursary for $1,337.56 and the TRU Foundation Open Bursary for $160.00.

Chelsey Cardinal from Williams Lake won the TD Canada Trust Williams Lake Bursary for $1,500.00, Alysha Crosina from Williams Lake won the Bev Huska Memorial Award for $500.00, Paula Dodds from 150 Mile House won the TRU Foundation Open Bursary for $700.00 and the Old Age Pensioners Organisation Bursary for $500.00.

Deanna Dormuth from Williams Lake won the Capital Power Corporation Bursary for $1,000.00 and the TRU Foundation Open Bursary for $200.00 and Amber Dueck from Williams Lake won the Williams Lake Student Support Bursary for $1,000.00.

Mark Gill from Williams Lake won the Dr. Jette Elsebeth Ashlee Memorial Bursary $1,000.00, Alexander Hadden from Williams Lake won the Spectra Energy Willliams Lake Award for $625.00 and Justin Hadden from Williams Lake won the Spectra Energy Willliams Lake Award for $625.00.

Kimberly Kunka from Williams Lake won the TRU Foundation Open Bursary $1,000.00, Kristen Morey from Prince George won the Williams Lake Cyclethon Bursary for $416.56 and Shirley Nesse from Williams Lake won the TRU Faculty Association Bursary for $1,000.00.

Kelly Therrien from Williams Lake won the Williams Lake Lions Club Bursary $1,000.00 and the TRU Foundation Open Bursary for $500.00.

Two students from Williams Lake now attending the TRU campus in Kamloops also received awards.

Haley Engle from Williams Lake won the Williams Lake Student Support Bursary for $1,500.00 and Isabella Kreis from Big Lake Ranch won the Williams Lake Student Support Bursary for $1,500.00.
