Fresh tastes and fun in the park

Tatjana Bates and the Food Policy Council organized the 'Taste of the Cariboo' in Boitanio Park today, where food and local food sources were celebrated. Live music, real food, games for kids and fun with a parachute helped make the event lively and celebratory. There were booths that featured farmers, wild honey makers, sheep product producers, range-fed meats and much more. The Cariboo Chilcotin Conservation Society had a booth in the park, as did the Cancer Society and Debbie Irvine, Holistic Nutritionist.
The meal by Blue Spoon and the Gecko Tree was exquisite, featuring fresh foods locally produced. Delectable curries, fragrant stews and fresh, vibrant salads tempted the appetite and delighted the palate.
Live music included the WIlliams Lake Pipe Band, where band members Doug White, Sandy Lees and John Visentin entertained in kilted splendor and Tom Salley and friends played tunes that included reggae-style songs that had toes tapping throughout the park.
Residents can look forward to the opening of the year-round local food centre opening soon on the corner of Oliver and 3rd Avenue.

(Eli Smith Peterson, along with his family, Ann, Christian and Jonas, came in first in the Great Adventure Race today for the Taste of the Cariboo event.)
