Elementary schools throughout School District 27 gathered in Boitanio Park for the Cross Country Run. Hundreds of students ran the 1km--1.5 km route throughout the park, with at least two, long steep uphill sections.
Danielle Schultz is in Grade 5 at Nesika Elementary School. She finished 26th in her section. This was her third year at the Cross Country Run and she said that she did far better this year. "I found new ways to run faster and keep my strength up. When you're running down hills, use long strides, and skip instead of walking when you get tired--it makes you run faster."

She said that this is the one event that brings all the kids from all the schools together. "Sometimes one or more schools come to Nesika to play sports like basketball, soccer, floor hockey or volleyball, but everyone is invited to come to the park for the Cross Country Run," she said.
"When you're running, all the cheering makes you feel like you want to run more and it gives you more strength---it makes you feel like you want to run, not like you have to run."
