As part of the Imagine Our Future process to create a new Official Community Plan for our community, the City of Williams Lake is mobilizing a Great Adventure on October 3rd. Everyone is invited to be part of this fun community event, either as individuals, in teams of two or more or as a family. The Great Adventure Kicks off at 9:30 am at the Cariboo Memorial Complex.

Participants are invited to walk or bike a loop through the downtown of the City, and stop at all 10 stations to share their thoughts about best approaches to prepare our community for success. Hints and clues guide the way to the next location. Details of The Great Adventure will be revealed to participants as they proceed through the course. This is not a race to the finish, but is rather a chance to explore the downtown of Williams Lake by piecing together the clues provided at each stop in the Adventure.

Prizes are available to Adventurers as they proceed through the course. Participants will have the opportunity to experience firsthand the new healthy food concession at the recreation centre, new businesses and be a part of the Taste of the Cariboo where there will be food, farmers, live music and fun for all ages. The last station of the Adventure is in Boitanio Park.

The first eighty people to register and complete the Great Adventure will receive a free lunch ticket for  a local food meal at the Taste of the Cariboo Festival. Once registered, Adventurers will be given a package that includes directions on how to play the Great Adventure, a passport to be stamped at each key location, a map of the downtown, key questions to answer and clues to each next station.

Imagine Williams Lake is exactly what it sounds like ‐ a chance for the community to take a look at where we are, what is going on around us and where we want to go in the future. We’re creating a sustainability framework that includes a description of our reality today and a vision for how we see our community changing over time. We need to ensure that Williams Lake continues to be a great community with great people and lots of opportunity for everyone. We need to plan out the steps to make sure we manage change in our city as best as we possibly can. This means taking the sustainability framework and using it to write a new Official Community Plan early next year.
