083110_hair_doThis year to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of the Terry Fox Run the Cariboo Memorial Recreation Complex is hosting a ‘Hair Do’ event.

"Participants are encouraged to have some fun and create a funky new style for themselves on September 19 and show it off during our annual 5 or 10 km walk, run or bike event," said Suzanne Cochrane, Recreation Programmer. "Spike it, color it, add some color, bows, flowers- your creativity is part of the fun."

For those participants that need some creative help wear a wig or the Stampede Royalty will be offering an on-site salon with some funky and fun hairstyling.  Organizers hope that some participants will step forward and brave a head shave.  Participants with ‘hair do’s can enter their name to win some wonderful prizes.

"It will be a Terry Fox Run like never before," Suzanne remarked.  "We hope local businesses get involved with their own ‘Hair Do’ Friday."

Registration and the on-site salon starts  at 9:00 am. The walk/run/bike begins at 10:00 am. Pledge sheets are available at the Cariboo Memorial Recreation Complex as well as 30th Anniversary T-Shirts.

Call Suzanne if you would like to brave a shave during the event 250-398-7665.

Recipe for Very Cool Kool- Aid Hair Dye from the recipezaar.com

Serves 1 Head of Hair

1 pkg Kool-aid, unsweetened

6 cups water

Paper towels

Plastic Wrap

Be very sure to use UNSWEETENED. Mix one packet of Kool-Aid with the water in a pot. Heat until boiling,  stirring. Remove from heat and cool to a temperature that is warm but not hot. Dip as much hair as possible into the mix. Then, with your head over the pot, ladle the Kool-Aid over the hair. Do this for 15 minutes. Wring out hair and pat dry with paper towels. Don’t wrap in a towel as it will absorb too much colour. At this point you could wrap your hair in plastic wrap and leave overnight or for several hours. Then, uncover and let dry. After it dries, rinse repeatedly, shampoo and condition. Note: the excess colour may stain your skin, but it will scrub off.
