Mini racing for fans of all ages and sizes tonight

This weekend, racing fans will enjoy the ever-popular Pacific Northwest Dwarf Car Challenge as they heat up the pavement at Thunder Mountain Speedway during the 2010 All Mini Invitational.
Dwarf cars are 5/8 scale replica models of vintage 1928-1948 American made automobiles. They have full steel roll cages; sheet metal bodies, and are powered by 4 cylinder motorcycle engines up to 1250cc. They have full racing suspension, are capable of speeds over 100 mph (160 kms/hr) on the straight-aways and turn in lap times on this track in the mid 17 second range.
The day begins with a 'Meet the Drivers' event at Heartland Toyota from 10:00 until 1:00. Hot dogs and burgers will be served with proceeds going to the Williams Lake SPCA. Kids get a chance to meet the race car drivers and get their picture taken with them, while parents will win tickets to the racing event simply by taking any new Toyota on the lot for a test drive.
At 6:00pm time trials get underway at the race track, and racing will get underway at 7:00. "There are several mini classes racing tonight, with some racers from as far away as Edmonton planning to attend," said track president, Marius Dunford. "First prize is $1000 for both the Pro Mini's and the Bone Stock Mini's."
Kids who missed out on the 'Meet the Drivers" event earlier in the day will have a chance to get up close to the cars and drivers during intermission. "Kids love Dwarf cars," advised Marius Dunford. It's a action-packed, adrenaline-filled evening of fun that the whole family can enjoy.
