Liz Dighton, manager of the Williams Lake branch of the BC SPCA said she was pleased with the results during the five-hour 'Freaky Friday Feline Festival Adopt-a-thon' this Friday the 13th. "Four cats found new homes today," she said with a big smile.
Liz explained that as a general rule, black cats and kittens spend a longer time in the shelter than the more 'funky-coloured' ones . One theory is that black animals simply don't stand out as much, and are more difficult to photograph so they don't get as much media attention. "Black cats face some of the worst odds when it comes to finding permanent homes," she explained. Todays' creative event shed some light on that fact, and Liz hopes more people will continue to come in over the rest of the summer to adopt some of the 74 felines still waiting to be adopted.

Currently the Williams Lake SPCA is home to six dogs waiting to be adopted, as well.
Maurice, a 9 year old Miniature Pinscher is among them. Maurice's owner chose not to pay the fee to pick him up after he was found wandering and brought into the shelter as a stray. This mild mannered gentleman who loves to be held, needs a little time in the doggy dentist's chair to remove some tartar build up and possibly have an extraction. Because of that, the SPCA has reduced his adoption fee to just $75.00.
If you are interested in adopting Maurice, call or visit the Williams Lake SPCA branch, 250-392-2179
