Local heavy metal band ‘Embracing Torment’ will be performing on Sunday August 15 at the Long House for an all-ages ‘metal’ show at 8pm, along with ‘Unleash the Archers’ from Victoria and ‘Primal Stance’ from Prince George.
The alcohol-and-drug-free event will be hosted by Embracing Torment, who has also been holding very successful monthly music events for kids, with three more booked in the next few weeks. These events are becoming well-known as a secure place for young kids to come together and enjoy music.

Embracing Torment is made up of Ernie Hawkins on drums, Mikael Stead on bass, Jeff Green on lead guitar, Wayland Bennett on rhythm guitar and Jake Darlington on lead vocals.
Ernie said that he’s played music with Jeff for years, and that Embracing Torment has been together for two years. Wayland joined the group in the past year and that Jake Darlington, who has done sound for the band, has recently joined as lead singer.
The band does all original material, with each band member contributing to the process. “Inspiration for our lyrics comes from past experiences, including frustration with people pushing religion on us,” he explained. “I grew up listening to heavy metal and oddly enough, the appeal for me is that I find it very calming.”
He said that the drumming style is faster and more technical than other kinds of drumming. “With heavy metal you can’t play half-way---it’s fearless,” he explained.
The group will be performing original favourites such as ‘Hatred Guides’ and ‘Dead Ark’ and the audience will get to hear the debut performance of ‘The Lost’.
