scoutisland_logoSummertime and the learning is easy.  Nature Fun starts soon at Scout Island Nature Centre.

Their new Nature Explorers’ Camp runs from July 26 until 30.  That is great news for kids from 3-13.

Nature Fun helps kids understand nature in new and fun ways.  Lots of outdoor adventure introduces life forms and ecosystems through games, walks, and nature play, while crafts and stories in the Nature House give rhythm to the day.

Nature Fun sessions run from July 5 to August 27, and your child can attend any or all of the sessions to fit your summer schedule.  Ages 3-8 can choose mornings 9:30 to 11:00 or afternoons (except Wednesdays) 1:00 to 3:00 @ $8 per session.  The 8-13 crowd can attend a full day on Mondays (9:30 to 3:00) for $15 each, or Wednesday afternoons 1:00 to 3:00 for $8.00 per session.

Best of all, each week has a different theme, with age-appropriate lessons:

July 5-9  It’s a Leafy World
Trees, shrubs and flowers may not be able to walk, but they can do many fascinating things

July 12-16 Creepy Crawlies
It’s time to find out all about the tiny (and not-so-tiny) creatures that share our world.

July 19-23 Feathers, Flight and Feet
Learn about the only dinosaurs left on Earth:  birds

July 26-30  Our Spinning Planet
Weather, survival, our planet and its amazing possibilities.

August 3-6 Matter & Motion
How do water striders walk on water?  How does a windmill world?  Science comes alive!

August 9-13 Skulls & Bones
Whose tooth is that?  What does it help the animal eat?  Where do the ears go?

August 16-20 Mystery Week
Who am I?  What am I?

August 23-27 Marsh Monsters
Did you know that dragonfly larvae live in the water?  Catch and examine the wide variety of things that make their home in the marsh.

Nature Explorers’ Camp goes beyond the ordinary to teach outdoor skills and provide hands-on exploration for the curious and adventuresome, aged 7-13, from July 26-30.  Orienteering, hiking, outdoor safety and shelter building, along with games, animal observations and experiments are in the plans, led by our lively and knowledgeable summer staff in a 1:5 ratio.  Monday-Wednesday sessions are 9-4.    For a special treat, participants can go for an overnighter near Horsefly from 1:00 Thursday to 11 a.m. Friday (camping optional).  Listen for owls and bats, and gaze at the stars.    To go on the overnighter, you must have attended at least one previous day.  Best of all would be to sign up for the whole program, as we’re building skills from day to day. If you register and pay for Camp by July 12, the cost is $25 per day or $100 for the whole week.  After that it’s $30/day or $125 for the week.

These programs fill up quickly, so don't wait too long to register.  Contact:  This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it or 398-8532.
