The grand opening of the new Williams Lake Fire Department Hall on Hodgson Road was well attended by community members of all ages, and featured activities that included a children’s Loonie carnival, rookie wet-sponge toss, and mini children’s-firefighter challenge. Residents and guests were invited to a BBQ on site, followed by the grand opening ceremony.

Mayor Kerry Cook, City Councillor Tom Barr and former Mayor Scott Nelson were on hand to perform the ribbon cutting. Assistant Fire Chief Dez Webster introduced Mayor Cook, saying, "I'd like to extend a warm welcome to everyone today--I think this is a great turn-out, and it's a great day to celebrate this top-notch new facility for Williams Lake."
"I don't think I've ever had a conversation with Chief Randy Isfeld where he hasn't shared his pride in his 42 firefighters. I don't think there is a fire chief anywhere that is as passionate and dedicated to his community and his firefighters, so thank-you, Chief Randy, for everything that you do for us," he continued. "I think today is about honouring and paying respect to our Fire Chief and to all of our firefighters and their families: this is an amazing way to serve their community."
He said that the new fire hall wouldn't be open without the past Mayor and Council and the decision to move forward with the project.
"Not only did we need a new hall for the safety of the City, but I think we needed a new hall for the firefighters that donate their time year after year," said Councilor Barr, and former Mayor Scott Nelson added, "We're blessed by our fire department and volunteers that really look after our community and I think that this is well deserved. Congratulations."
The firefighter’s challenge started at 1:30 pm.
