The Walk for Harmony on March 25 is hosted by the Cariboo Chilcotin branch of the Canadian Mental Health Association. It will begin in Boitanio Park at 11:45 on March 25 and end in the Gibraltar Room with entertainment and refreshments.
“The walk has grown from 35 people the first year to over 200 last year and we anticipate that it will continue to grow,” said Darlene Doskoch, Manager of Employment and Social Programs with CMHA.
Mike Royal with CMHA said that the whole idea behind the Walk for Harmony is to celebrate cultural difference. “There will be music and entertainment in the Gibraltar Room, including music by Wayne Lucier from CMHA and Troy Fourcier from the Boys and Girls Club. We will have a variety of different ethnic foods, and we encourage people to celebrate the cultural differences we have here in Williams Lake,” he explained. “Conflict comes from misinformation, and I see this walk as a way to give people information about other cultures.”
Darlene said that all the schools in the District have been invited to participate. “Last year Sacred Heart was the only school that came, and they stole the show. The kids got up and danced and got the adults to join them. That’s what it’s all about: kids without barriers setting an example for the adults.”
