Brought to the community by Success by 6 and Cariboo Chilcotin Partners for Literacy, the fun, free event will include games, puppets, face painting, photos with Sir-Read-a-Lot the Literate Moose, live interactive music, prizes, crafts, give-aways, lunch, storytime, bookwalks and book swaps.

(The Big Boggle game was a favourite activity at last year's Family Fest.)

One of the most unique romantic outings in Williams Lake is the annual Valentine's Day sleigh ride put on by the Cariboo Draft Horse Club. 

The fun is open to all, and eveyone from toddlers to seniors enjoys the opportunity to experience Cariboo winter wilderness beauty behind a team of beautiful draft horses.

012812_food_council_lunchApproximately 40 people gathered in the TRU cafeteria today to talk about food. There were three purposes for the second Food Policy Council meeting today: to celebrate the progress of the food projects in the community, to engage interested participants and to identify opportunities for the next steps.

(A delectable lunch that was 80% locally-grown was served today at the Food Policy Council meeting by the Bean Counter and Grower’s Market: vegetarian and beef chili, cheese scones, bannock with local jams, coffee and tea and desserts. Photos and information by Jasmine Hjelden.)

The Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) is a nation-wide, charitable organization that promotes mental health and supports the recovery of people experiencing mental illness.

Women & Wellness is a unique and popular event that supports the important work of the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA). The money raised at these events will help the association deliver education and support programs for people afflicted with mental illness, their loved ones and the public.

012012_grey_cupOn behalf of Donna Barnett, Cariboo Chilcotin MLA, residents are invited to see the Grey Cup and meet some BC Lions players as the Grey Cup 2012 Tour comes to Williams Lake in two weeks.

The Lions and the Cup will be in the Gibraltar Room from 2:30 to 3:30pm on Thursday, February 2nd. The players will speak to the audience, and there will be an opportunity for attendees to get autographs and take photos with the Cup.

012011_exploresports_skiThe City of Williams Lake has been chosen by PacificSport NorthernBC to receive BC Sport Participation funding from the Government of Canada and the Province of BC in order to expand the XploreSport program in our community. This XploreSportZ winter program will run through the month of February and will give children age 9-12 the opportunity to try seven winter sports and learn about snow safety.

The 11th (official) Annual Polar Bear Swim took place in Williams Lake yesterday.  Onlookers wrapped in their scarves,mittens and parkas cheered as the swimmers began throwing themselves into the frigid waters at 1:00pm, while the temperature rose to a 'balmy' -3 degrees Celsius.

010111_aussie_polar_bears_BRugby supporters and enthusiasts and other adventurous residents brace themselves for another adrenalin-laced event on Williams Lake on New Year’s Day at the annual Polar Bear Swim.

This is Williams Lake Rustlers Rugby Football Club member Brad Bulow’s second year organizing the event. A member of the club for about five years, he has also experienced the invigorating swim himself several times.

Twelve students graduated from the transition ECE (Early Childhood Education) course at TRU this week, finishing stage one on their way to an Early Childhood diploma. Family, friends, teachers, TRU staff and First Nations community leaders gathered to offer their congratulations and ongoing support for the students.

(Deidre Jack addressed the ECE transition class graduates, congratulating them on behalf of the Cariboo Chilcotin Aboriginal Training an Employment Centre, which is the funder for the program.)
