Fire suppression efforts continue in the Cariboo
| Firewatch |
Crews continue to work and make progress on the three largest wildfires within the boundaries of the Cariboo Fire Centre. These wildfires include the Bull Complex west of Alexis Creek, the Meldrum Complex west of Williams Lake, and the Pelican Lake Complex north of Nazko.
At this time, there aren't any road closures or area restrictions in place but due to continuing active suppression efforts the Cariboo Fire Centre urges the public to avoid these areas if at all possible. Hazardous road conditions are also a major concern for these areas due to falling trees and increased traffic, and the public is reminded to be extremely cautious if you need to travel in these areas.
Public and crew safety remains the number one priority of the Wildfire Management Branch and the Cariboo Fire Centre.Although campfires are now permitted under the jurisdiction of the Cariboo Fire Centre, the public is reminded that campfires must not be larger than 0.5 metres wide and 0.5 metres tall.
Anyone who lights a campfire must have a hand tool such as a shovel, or at least eight litres of water nearby to fully extinguish it.
Never leave a campfire unattended, and make sure ashes are completely cold to the touch before leaving the area. Extra caution must be taken in areas where the fire danger rating remains high to extreme.
