Daily update from the Cariboo Fire Centre
| Firewatch |
All of the fires burning within the Cariboo Fire Centre received varying amounts of rain this past weekend. While this precipitation did not extinguish these fires, it did provide an opportunity for crews to build and complete guards. Improved visibility has also allowed full utilization of our ground and air suppression resources, which has helped reduce wildfire activity.
The Cariboo Fire Centre wants to stress that the number of fire fighters has not decreased and fire crews continue to be backfilled. Currently, 1704 personnel are actively involved in suppression efforts; three-quarters of which are from BC as required.
Meldrum Complex
Crews have made good progress on all fires burning within the Meldrum Complex. The combined size of all the fires in the area is approximately 52,000 hectares. Fire fighters are continuing to build guards on fire 191 and the northern flank of fire 189. Crews will be conducting burnoff operations along control lines when conditions are favourable.
Bull Complex
The Bull Complex is over 34,000 hectares in size. As today, the dozer guard around fire 186 is complete. Fire fighters will continue to patrol and extinguish hotspots on fires 234, 183, and 186. Alexis Lake Road and Anah Lake Road are now open to the public. No permit is required to travel. Access to the Siwash Bridge is now permitted. The 7000 Road remains closed.
Pelican Complex
Good progress has been made on fire 205 and 299. Fire 205 is currently 32,978 hectares and fire 299 is 2,400 hec-tares in size. Crews are continuing to construct guard on the north side of Batnuni Rd, the south flank, and the west perimeter. Fire fighters will also be conducting burnoff operations when conditions permit. There is an area road restriction order in place from Pelican Lake to Pantage Lake in effect until September 3, 2010 or until lifted. This road restriction is to allow for the safety of the general public and our suppression resources.
Heckman Pass Fire
The fire has been mapped at 3,086 hectares . Today fire crews will continue to secure the east flank and begin mopping up the south flank. Hwy 20 remains open on both sides of the Anahim Lake area.
Corkscrew Basin
This fire is burning within and outside of the Itcha Ilgachuz Provincial Park and is estimated in excess of 6000 hec-tares. This fire is currently being monitored by the Incident Management Team working on the Heckman Pass fire, while a Fire Analysis Plan is being completed by fire management specialists in conjunction with BC Parks Land Managers.
