The quiet, relaxing atmosphere and individualized, professional services that both Sheri and Tammy-Lee offer help ensure that a customer’s experience is positive and beneficial.
A member of the National Health Care Practitioners of Canada, Tammy-Lee said that massage can help increase circulation, lower blood pressure, improve respiratory function and decrease scar tissue, and added that it benefits an enormous range of conditions.
“People come for things like headaches, general or stress-related soreness, routine maintenance, a lot of headaches and lower back pain, tendonitis, plantar fasciitis and shoulder pain,” she said. “Initially, when you’re dealing with chronic pain, it may take 1-5 treatments to feel a measure of relief. I tailor and individualized the treatments so that you get what you need to feel better.
“If you wait too long, or don’t do regular maintenance it takes longer to get you back to normal---the threshold for the pain gets heightened, so it takes more to fix it,” she explained.
She is perceptive and caring and calls herself a ‘straight-shooter’. “I like making people’s pain go away, and I also help with pain management and education,” she continued.
Tammy-Lee has done professional massage for almost 10 years, including working with several chiropractors. “Becoming a therapist was a good decision for me----I get a lot of satisfaction from helping people find answers and helping them find relief,” she said. “I try to make people feel comfortable, I answer your questions and face your concerns with you---I can be part of your ‘healing team.’”
Some of Tammy-Lee’s clients are referrals from local doctors, and she sees a wide range of ages—from babies to seniors in their 80s and 90s. She said that she also sees clients with specific needs and challenges, has a special interest in pregnancy massage and teaches infant massage.
“Infant massage is wonderful for babies: it calms them, gets them into a relaxing routine, creates bonding between mom and baby and helps with things like constipation and colic,” she explained. “For seniors, massage can help with stiffness, arthritic soreness, pain control and pain management---it just helps them feel good.”
Sheri Lyons, owner of Escape Esthetics, has been helping clients feel better and look better for 14 years. She offers a wide range of skin treatments for men and women, including facials, manicures, pedicures, shaping, tinting and waxing.
“It’s a fact that 80% of us have dehydrated skin from our climate and from the weather---you can get wrinkles and age faster if you don’t take care of your skin,” she explained. “Getting regular professional treatments and learning how to take care of your skin can make you feel better and look younger.”
One example of the benefit of a treatment at Escape Esthetics is helping you become ‘better-heeled’. “This is a bad climate for heels—they get dry, callused and cracked,” Sheri said. “The drier it is, the deeper the crack, and your heels can bleed and become very painful.”
Besides removing calluses and smoothing your feet, Sheri sells German-made Gehwol quality foot care products to help with your healing and upkeep between regular treatments.
Manicures and pedicures at Escape Esthetics help keep you in great condition---they strengthen your nails and help promote healthy nail growth. Sheri tailors her treatments to a wide range of ages and health issues. “Diabetics have to keep their nails and feet in good condition because they have poor blood circulation,” she explained. “Older people have the really thick nails that you can’t cut through if your life depended on it---that’s where I can help.”
She said that, for skin and nail disorders, upkeep is important. “Monthly appointments will usually keep your hands and feet in good condition, and you can easily do upkeep in between,” she continued. “When you try do a pedicure at home you can take off too much, or cut your nails too short and cause ingrown toenails. Come and see me, sit back and relax—you’ll look good, feel good, and the only upkeep you’ll have is to cream and moisturize.”
According to Sheri, a big part of her job satisfaction is helping people to feel comfortable---like they’re coming to see a friend. “That’s what this job feels like to me. Your customers become your friends---you really care about them like family,” she said. “I want my customers to feel like they’re walking on air, walking on a cloud: I want them to feel that they can go dancing.”
