Making a choice for health, strength and flexibility in the New Year

Two best friends are close to celebrating a year in business together: a year of promoting health, wellness and healing to their many clients in the Williams Lake area. Tricia Hohert and Angie Delainey are the owners and instructors at Satya Yoga Studio located in the lower level of the Delainey's Center at 271 Oliver Street.
(Tricia Hohert, Angie Delainey and Shilo Labelle, instructors at Satya Yoga Studio in Williams Lake, know from personal experience how healing and therapeutic yoga can be.)
Satya clients come to the studio for many reasons—looking for help with things like stress relief, better breathing, pain relief, increased strength and weight management.
Angie explained that in the past year the feedback from clients has included, ‘My back doesn't hurt as much or anymore,’ ‘I go to the chiropractor less,’ ‘I have (quit taking my anxiety medication,’ ‘My flexibility has increased,’ ‘I feel like I have more tools to deal with stress,’ ‘My sciatica is gone,’ and ‘My pants fit better.’
She said that the studio is a commitment to better mind and body health---a promise to live better. “Our members are people of all ages, shapes, sizes, and abilities and our classes are accessible and affordable, even if you have never tried a Yoga class in your life,” she explained. “At Satya all you need is a flexible mind. We will take care of the rest.”
Satya instructors have a minimum of a 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training in compliance with Yoga Alliance. They offer private one-on-one classes, group classes, children's classes, restorative classes for those suffering from illness or anxiety, power classes designed for men open to women, and ‘gentle classes’.
(Tricia is a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT-200hr) and graduate from the Salt Spring Centre of Yoga, trained in Classical Ashtanga and Hatha Yoga.)
“The beauty of yoga is that there is a modification for every pose so the practice and benefits are accessible to every body,” Angie continued.
The atmosphere for yoga is crucial, according to Angie, who explained that the feedback from Satya members is very positive. “You need to be able to relax and focus on the ‘inner self’ and people tell us they feel ‘grounded’ the minute they walk through the door,” she noted.
She also stated that each Satya instructor has taken a different type of training, allowing for a broader range of classes making it accessible for everyone to find a class and instructor that they resonate with.
Instructors at Satya know first hand the healing benefits of yoga. “My own personal journey through Rheumatoid Arthritis lead me to yoga, and Shilo Labelle who is also an instructor with a rare form of spinal arthritis, knows that her practice over the past 13 years is the reason her spine is not fused,” Angie said. “Tricia recovered 100% from lower back injury and surgery through yoga--it's pretty powerful!”
(Angie has completed her 200 Yoga Teacher Training in May 2011 through Yandara Yoga Institute in Todas Santos Mexico.)
She said that they want their clients to feel safe, comfortable and supported on their journey towards inner peace and balance. “We believe that our clients need to feel that we care about their well being and that we are supporting them in their practice by continuing to teach to learn,” she said. “We also feel that consistency in excellent service is of the utmost importance: we built this studio for the people of Williams Lake.”
She said that her favorite New Year's resolution is ‘to act with awareness, compassion and kindness towards all beings.’
