Besides pedicures, manicures, hair care and lingerie, Tickled Pink Beauty Bar has another unique gift idea for any occasion: the ‘Sassy Diva Cookbook.’
The book contains favourite recipes collected from clients and friends, according to Tickled Pink owner Janelle Lamont, and is being sold until December 24 for a unique cause.
(The Sassy Diva Cookbook is a fun gift idea with a great cause behind it.)
She said that all proceeds go to support ‘Pets of the Homeless,’ a non-profit volunteer organization that provides pet food and veterinary care to the homeless and less fortunate in local communities. “All the money we raise is staying in BC and we’re also going to make this cause local for Williams Lake,” she explained.
“Our goal here in Williams Lake is to get the word out and help collect crates and animal food to support families here. By next year we’re hoping to get the community on board so that we can show up at the Salvation Army with a truckload of pet food and supplies.”
Information from Pets of the Homeless indicates that most people who experience homelessness are homeless for short periods of time and need help finding affordable housing or a rent subsidy. Unfortunately, for those with pets it becomes more difficult.
“Pet lovers are going to find a place in their hearts for this,” Janelle continued. “Pets are great for people’s mental health---they’re loyal, non-judgmental and offer unconditional love. For people who are homeless or at risk of it, and for people with disabilities, these pets can be their family, their companion, their friend and sometimes their source of heat. Sometimes these pets are the only thing they have.”
Pets of the Homeless offers grants to veterinarian clinics for people who need care for their pets. “The money raised makes sure that pets can have food, vet care and maybe a crate,” Janelle continued. “Every time we send money to this organization, they quickly send us an update on exactly where the money went.”
‘The Sassy Diva Cookbook’ includes “cute cooking quotes and retro pictures,” according to Janelle, who added that Cathy Norman designed the book and Papyrus Printers printed it.
