Shoppers in the Cariboo are in for a unique treat when they walk through the door into ‘The Rusty Bucket’ gift store in 150 Mile House. The home décor shop has ideas and inspiration for every room in the house in an array of colours and textures.

Owner Rena Johnson said that she was surprised and delighted with the response, which was enthusiastic from the moment she opened her doors. The store is her first retail experience and she said that she’s looking forward to meeting the needs of her customers for a long time to come.111011_rusty_bucket

The store is farmhouse-fresh, with its barn-board walls and ceiling, natural flooring and crackling fireplace, overlaid with items that range from elegant to whimsical and from subtle to stunning.

Rena said she’s been working on the store for a year. “Last summer we started thinking about it and in September we started on the building and in January we went to the buying show,” she explained.

She said that the inspiration for the shop and its content came from her own passion for decorating and interior design. “When you walk in the door I wanted it to feel like it could be anybody’s house: with the fireplace, the mantel and the dining room table,” she said with a smile. “And I did the store in wood so that we could use nails in the walls to hang things.”

The store is open Wednesday to Saturday, and by appointment if she is available. “When you come in I’ll have tea and cookies ready,” she said. “This is ‘destination shopping’ and I want you to feel welcome and enjoy your time in the store.”
