For more than 20 years Audio Video Unlimited has been holding an Electronic Super Sale---a much-anticipated seasonal highlight for the entire Cariboo Chilcotin. Thousands of residents and visitors from outlying communities enjoy the opportunity to see the latest in home entertainment at the best bargain prices.
The Audio Video Electronics Super Sale takes place October 15-17 at the Overlander Convention Centre. “Everybody loves a good sale and nowadays it seems that good old-fashioned service and product knowledge isn’t enough,” said Audio Video owner Brian Sawyer. “People want to make sure that they’re getting a good deal, and we pride ourselves on price matching to make that happen. Just because you live here, you shouldn’t have to pay more---we deserve the same prices as anyone else.”
The store in Williams Lake is one of the top Audio Video dealers in Canada, and has achieved a very high level of respect in the electronics community, selling a range of home entertainment systems, car stereos and video/satellite systems that suit customer budgets and space requirements.
“Rather than try to bring in absolutely everything—every product under the sun from every supplier—we pick and choose dealers and really sell for them,” he said. “That way, you get good buying power and good support from these dealers, and they will back you up and stick by you--that kind of support gets passed down to the customer.”
Audio Video has also been a staunch supporter of the community for 30 years. Kids groups, charities, sports and community projects have all benefited from their belief that community really matters. “In 30 years, our small, local business has donated at least $150,000 to events and organizations in our community: this is where a small business makes a big difference,” Brian continued.
Part of the secret of the store’s success as the leader in home electronics, is that in a constantly changing field, Audio Video hires great staff members who are willing to keep up with the technology and terminology. He also said that that all his suppliers provide great training programs and excellent information.
“We have almost 90 stores across Canada, from BC to Newfoundland, and we get a lot of support from each other,” he continued. “We’re in constant contact and share new ideas and information about new technology.
“With electronics, you can’t look to the future. You have to ask yourself, ‘what are the features I need today?’ At Audio Video, we help by offering a 5-year additional transferable warranty on everything we sell,” he said. “If you buy a new TV and sell it two years down the road, it still has warranty.”
He stated that he feels that it’s a positive move to have WalMart opening in Williams Lake. “We lose more business because people go out of town to shop than we lose to other businesses here. WalMart coming here is fantastic: it means lots of jobs and it keeps people shopping local.”
The Audio Video Electronic Super Sale is an annual highlight for Williams Lake and surrounding communities, and promises to live up to its reputation as the place to go for high quality electronics at competitive prices. “This sale is a lot of fun and a lot of work—it’s crazy. We move the whole store out of our building for the weekend and then move it all back,” he explained. “We’ll have Toshiba, Sony, Alpine, Samsung and Denon, and sales reps on hand to do entertaining, informative presentations.”
