Woodland Jewellers Goldsmith/Designer Geoff Bourdon is putting the finishing touches on a diamond ring that will help the Cariboo Foundation Hospital Trust purchase a digital mammogram unit. The ring had its first viewing today at a regular board meeting for the Foundation, when Woodland Jewellers Office Manager Cindy Watts brought the ring to show the board members.

This is the second time that Woodland Jewellers has designed and crafted an original ring for the Cariboo Foundation Hospital Trust. “We made an anniversary ring last year for our 76th anniversary, designed with hearts, made from white and yellow gold and inlayed with 76 points of diamonds,” said Geoff. “We raffled the $3,500 ring off and donated the proceeds to the Cariboo Foundation Hospital Trust. It was received very well and we wanted to do it this year, and go bigger. This year the ring will be worth $7,700 and be made with 77 points of diamonds.”

Woodland Jewellers plans to sell raffle tickets for the ring, which will go on sale in the next few weeks, and will hold the draw on December 4. “Last year we had 400 tickets at $10 and this year we will have 500 tickets at $20 a ticket, which will have significantly higher value as a fundraiser,” Geoff continued. “It also hits close to home for me: I’ve had several family members touched by cancer.”

The spectacular diamond centre stone is incredibly high quality, and Geoff said that it’s an interesting challenge to incorporate the concept of cancer into the design of a ring. “This year’s ring will be made with white and yellow diamonds and from white and yellow gold,” he said. “We’re excited to be part of this, both in the creative aspect of the ring and in the support for the community.”
