Tickled Pink Beauty Bar offers award-winning services to customers, including sculptured gel nails using top of the line products and individualized nail art. A recent winner at the Chamber of Commerce Business Excellence Awards, Janelle Lamont also offers full body waxing, special-occasion designs and bikini art, as well as eyelash and eyebrow tinting and gel toes.

“We also sell Kathy Van Zeeland purses and luggage—she is in the top three designers in the world, and I was really lucky to get this line,” Janelle stated.

 Tickled Pink has been at 12A North Broadway Avenue for one year. “I’ve been doing aesthetics since I was 18 years old---I’m a veteran,” she said with a smile. “When I graduated from high school I knew that I didn’t want to work in something ‘typical’ and got my aesthetics certification at the Interior Academy in Kamloops.” 

She said that she worked in various locations throughout the years and is now thoroughly enjoying her great location and new, beautiful salon. She added that it was a challenge and a labour of love to renovate the space. “This place was an abandoned disaster—blue, green and brown walls and a brutal floor---we completely gutted it and started from scratch,” she explained. 

Starting her own business was a long-time dream for Janelle, and she said that when she told a favourite client that she was ‘tickled pink’ at the prospect, the name for the new business was born. 

Appointments at Tickled Pink are far from clinical and time-consuming. “This is a place where you can enjoy some time for yourself, relax and watch your favourite show on our 42-inch flat screen TV, listen to your favourite music and just be pampered,” she explained. “You can enjoy a complimentary beverages and a sweet treat in complete comfort.” 

Tickled Pink has a plush couch, a kitchen area and a beautiful treatment room---an atmosphere that Janelle said she wants to be elegant, fun and welcoming. “I want clients to experience far more than a beauty treatment: I want them to relax, enjoy some good conversation or a good movie and feel the true benefits of looking after themselves,” she continued. “This was made for me---my friends are my clients and I love getting to know every person who comes in here. Our conversations are confidential, very ‘girl-on-girl’ and honest and real.”  

Janelle brings flexible and intuitive attention to every customer. “I think that there is a whole generation of women who missed out on learning how to look after themselves,” she said. “A lot of them married young, had kids and set aside a lot of things that they may have wanted to do for themselves. Now their kids are saying, ‘Mom, here’s a gift certificate: go get something done with your eyebrows.’ 

“My generation wants to look good all the time, and I find it a great pleasure to get to know these women who may be just starting to care about looking after themselves, and to help them find a look that they really love.” 

She said that huge thanks go to her fiancé, Cody Grier, who provided ongoing support and encouragement for her new business. “He helped renovate the shop, designed and made the beautiful welded-steel table tops and décor and did all kinds of repairs,” she said. “He did all the ‘blue’ jobs and even some of the ‘pink’ ones.” 

Winning the award from the Chamber of Commerce was an immense surprise and honour for Janelle. “I got a letter saying I had been nominated, but didn’t know I won until I was at the ceremony,” she explained. “I set goals every year on my birthday and winning this award was my biggest goal---I’ve accomplished what I most wanted.”
