Business

Trevor Todorowich’s Twisted and Tortured Inkworkz, located at 525 Borland Street, is the Lake City’s latest shop in the business of body art production (tattoos). “I first began tattooing pretty much by accident. I wound up with the machine in my hand one day, and liked it,” Trevor said. He said his friends had wanted him to do tattoos ever since his first drawings in school. After opening a tattoo shop inside his home, and then working briefly at another artist’s studio, Trevor decided that he needed his own space that reflected his own style.

There are now two tattoo shops in town, but Trevor said there is definitely no competitive edge between Inkworkz and Praying Mantis. “I’ve got about 145 hours of Praying Mantis work on me. Every artist is different; you develop your own style over time,” he said.

Trevor’s work space is relaxed and friendly, and his tattooing area is organized and sanitary. All of the equipment is sterilized with chemicals before it arrives, and is then sanitized with ultrasonic cleaners. Pressurized steam sterilization is used at 273 degrees for about 35 minutes, which kills any bacteria present.

As well as tattooing, Trevor creates his own organic piercing jewellery, made with rare and expensive woods, such as cocobolo; he also plans to start making other types of jewellery. Trevor’s mother has handmade bead jewellery, scarves and toques for sale inside his shop.

Trevor has many plans to continue to update his business. He is looking for a certified piercer to work for him in a customized area in his shop, and he is also set up to create a space for hot rock massage. Customers at Inkworkz will have something new to check out from one visit to the next. To contact Trevor, or to see some of his work, call 250-267-TAT2; or visit his Facebook page, Twisted and Tortured Inkworkz.
