Finale-a-thon-a-ramaBy Jill Berry

It’s the end of another season of American Idol and the end of Simon Cowell's reign as judge.

If you happen to be a fan of the 60's, 70's and 80's genre of music, then this finale was for you. Don't get me wrong: all of these musicians are great and I grew up knowing their songs, but when the Idol contestants can out-sing these iconic artists, there might be something wrong.

When I read that people like Alice Cooper, Alanis Morisette, Bret Michaels, Chicago, The Bee Gees, Micheal McDonald, Daryl Hall/John Oats, Joe Cocker and so on would be appearing I didn't think it would be too bad. But when there voices started cracking and they couldn't reach the high notes, all I could do is shake my head and wonder what demographic the producers think they are entertaining.

Janet Jackson, Christina Aguilera, Ricky Gervais, Carrie Underwood and Dane Cook were pretty good and so were the appearances by the top 12. But one of the best parts of the night was Larry Platt. He was the guy that sang, 'Pants on The Ground' and he even had back up dancers with the sagging jeans that ended up on the ground by the end of the song. A great Idol moment!

When Paula Abdul showed up and paid homage to Simon it was a nice 'full circle' moment and obviously touching for him as well. When they brought back all the winners and finalists from past years, that was well done too.

So no, Idol didn't get it all wrong, but some of you might question if America's voter's did. Lee Dewyze is our newest Idol and I feel it is a well deserved title. For me, if it went the other way and Crystal won, that would have been okay as well. She has oodles of talent and guaranteed, she will make her mark on the music world.

I loved Lee's reaction when he won! He is such a genuinely nice guy that even if you weren't a fan, it would be hard not to be touched by the expression on that face.

With this being my last article, I would like to take the liberty of quoting Simon's last words: “Thank you, it's been a blast.”
