A rollercoaster ride

As we near the end of the Idol season, I think back to how it started and the points in between. With the audition segment of the show, there was much laughter----remember the guy-with-the-pants-falling-down song? A classic moment that will live down in Idol history and probably be replayed over and over again.
Then there was 'Hollywood Week', which wasn't too bad for the most part, but kind of boring and seemingly endless at times. The 'Top 24' and six hours of Idol a week had a lot of fans jumping ship because of the tedium, and the hopeless talent was getting to be too much. I almost pulled the plug myself, but stuck by it knowing that eventually things would turn around.
Finally, the 'Top 12' came and we got to know the players better and picked our favourites and had fun critiquing the rest to our friends.
Now we have one show left and it feels very bittersweet to me, mainly because it’s Simon's last show. How can the show go on without him? To be honest, I'm not even sure I can watch it next season without him. He may be harsh, rude and insufferable, but he was almost always right in what he said. For me, he was one of the best parts of the whole show. He said and conducted his life with the honesty that most of us feel, but are too afraid to say or do for everyone to see or hear.
Tonight, live from the Nokia Theatre, the remaining two contestants had to sing three songs each. The first had to be their favourite from the season. The second was chosen by Simon Fuller, the show’s executive producer. And the third song would be released as a single, if they should win.
Lee started us off with 'The Boxer' then 'Everybody Hurts' and finally 'Beautiful Day'. I think he did well with all three, but it was evident that he was nervous. The Nokia Theatre is huge, which means a bigger audience and of course the pressure of it being the very last performance ever, must have played a huge part in his nerves.
Crystal may have been nervous but it didn't show in her performances of 'Me and Bobby Magee', 'Black Velvet' and 'Up to the Mountain'. She had a stellar night and gave Lee a run for his money. I was impressed, and at this point think that the finale could go either way.
Whoever wins, it’s been a good ride---ups, downs and boredom included.
