The Crooners CroonBy Jill Berry

With Harry Connick Jr. as mentor this week and the theme being Frank Sinatra, there was a lot of 'crooning' going on tonight. Some of the Top 5 shone with this theme, and others were very obviously out of their comfort zone. As an artist, I feel you need to have a certain amount of flexibility and enough talent to still have your own style shine through and be convincing at it.

Aaron Kelly started us off with 'Fly Me to the Moon'. As usual he gave his all and it wasn't a bad performance, but as with most of his performances, he just doesn't have enough experience behind his talent to make it completely convincing. For his age, though, he is definitely one of the most talented on that stage.

With the big band behind him and no guitar in his hand, Casey James gave us his version of 'Blue Skies'. After some very harsh critique from the judges, he admitted that he was out of his comfort zone and didn't know quite what to do with his hands. I like Casey, but at this stage of the game, if you can't perform comfortably or adequately without your favorite instrument, you might be going home before you're ready to.

In a gorgeous black gown and upswept dreads, Crystal Bowersox looked beautiful while singing the love song of her choice, 'Summer Wind'. This song was a first for me, but I enjoyed her as I usually do.

Michael Lynch was the most believable 'crooner' of the night for me: that is pretty much what he does every single week. He sang 'The Way You Look Tonight' and I'm betting he was very happy with tonight's theme for that very reason. Although he mostly bores me, in comparison to the other performances, his was one of the best.

We ended the night with Lee Dewyze singing, 'That's Life' and it was the most favoured performance for the judges and for me. He took an old Sinatra song and made it sound like it could be in the Top 40 tomorrow. I'll be very surprised if Lee doesn't win this competition.

Well, Idol fans, we’re getting down to the 'nitty gritty'---who do you think will be eliminated tomorrow and who will be our next Idol?
