So many possibilities
| Arts & Entertainment |
There were so many possibilities---for elimination, that is. I wondered at times if this was a new reality show, perhaps called: 'Do you Wanna Be the Next High School Musician?' All four judges were clearly frustrated with the majority of the performances and I'm sure the viewers were too. Will there be a record 'high' for votes in order to get one of the contestants off? Or will there be a record 'low' because America has given up?
Okay, okay, it wasn't all bad—there were some great moments, too.

17-year-old Miley Cyrus was the guest star and mentor tonight and I was surprised to learn that she is the youngest ever multi-platinum recording star with four number-one albums in less than three years. When I heard that she was coming on as a mentor my first thought was, “She's only 17!” With that kind of recording status, I guess she's more than relevant.
The Top 11 were given song choices from the 'Billboard Top 100's' number one songs in history. Lee Dewyze started off with a great performance of 'The Letter' by the Box Tops or more currently, Joe Cocker. He showed a lot more confidence and stage presence tonight and was a pleasure to listen to.
Paige Miles had a rocky, 'pitchy' performance with her choice of 'Against All Odds' by Mariah Carey. Randy actually used the word ‘terrible’ to describe her. She will either be in the bottom three or eliminated.
I don't think Tim Urban's dimples are going to save him after his version of 'Crazy Little Thing Called Love' by Queen. He seems like a nice guy and he does have talent but I never thought he had enough 'star quality' to make it to the top.
With tonsillitis, Aaron Kelly, still hit it out of the park with his rendition of 'I Don't Want to Miss a Thing' by Aerosmith. I think he and Miley would make a cute couple.
Standing on her 'Magic Carpet', Crystal Bowersox 'nailed it' with her performance of 'Me and Bobby McGee' by Janis Joplin. Definitely one of my favorites of the night, in a night riddled by 'duds'.
Micheal Lynch was up next with 'When a Man Loves a Woman' by Micheal Bolton. Not the best of the night, but not the worst either.
Without his guitar, Andrew Garcia sang, 'I heard it Through the Grapevine' by Marvin Gaye. It was OK but maybe he should have kept the guitar.
Katie Stevens did a pretty good job of Fergie's 'Big Girls Don't Cry' and was given kudos for listening to the judges’ critiques. She's cute and talented but what is with her top lip that curls up like Elvis' used to?
Casey James took us back in time (or is it Back to the Future?) with his song choice of 'Power of Love' by Huey Lewis and the News. I thought he sounded good, and he definitely has the makings of being a good recording star.
Didi Benami performed 'You’re No Good' by Linda Ronstadt. Simon thought the song choice ironic as he didn't like her performance and neither did the other judges. I thought it was entertaining and different.
Siobhan Magnus ended the night with 'Superstition' by Stevie Wonder. I'm not exactly sure what she sounded like as I was too distracted by her hair-do. I did, however catch the screeching at the end of her song---which turns out to be something of a 'signature' move for her. Simon was the only judge who didn't 'get it' but I'm in total agreement with him.
The elimination round tomorrow should be fraught with intrigue and I'll be watching it with you, Idol fans.
