The girls answer back
| Arts & Entertainment |
Wednesday night's episode had the general theme of frustration from the judges with a few high spots. Out of ten girls; that isn't many.
Taking the lead tonight in the line-up and in the judges' hearts, was Crystal Bowersocks singing, 'As Long As I Can See the Light' by CCR. Ah, good old Creedence! Even though she was first, she remained my favorite of the night. 24 hours ago she was sicker than a dog and tonight she's on stage with all the confidence of a seasoned artist and more talent in her little finger than most of them have in their whole body. She is here for the long haul, folks!

We heard from Haeley Vaughn next. She sang 'The Climb' by Myley Cyrus. Now, I don't mean any offense for any 'Haeley' fans out there, but how annoying is this chick? 'I'm bubbly, I'm happy, I can't frown, I make headbands', but can you sing? Not from where I'm sitting, you can't! "How ironic was this song?" asked Simon. "It's called 'The Climb' yet she fell off!" Well put, Simon. Maybe I shouldn't complain---she won't be here next week anyway.
Lacey Brown entertained--and I use the term loosely---with 'Kiss Me' by New Found Glory. Her performance was okay and I love her look, but she just doesn't have that natural confidence. It all seems so forced and out of her element. If she manages to stick around, her confidence might out-weigh her nerves in the next episode. I hope so because she's very likeable.
Up next was Katie Stevens. In an effort to be more current, she chose: 'Put Your Records On' by Corrine Bailey Rae. Good effort on her part and a good voice, but there's just something missing in her performance. The judges tried to help with some obscure advice that we've heard on every episode and Ryan tried, again, to translate for Simon. I'm pretty sure they needn't waste their time, because she'll be the second one voted off.
Didi Benami was next, singing 'Lean On Me' by Bill Withers. This is one of my all-time favorite songs. She got points in my book because she didn't 'murderize' it. Not my favourite performance of the night, but not the worst either. All the judges were on the same page with this one as they all agreed that it just didn't work. In this instance I think the judges were a bit harsh and didn't need to be.
Dressed in Vera Wang, Michelle Delamor was up next singing: 'With Arms Wide Open' by Creed. In one of his unprecedented moves, Simon went against the judges and praised her performance. I agreed with Randy and Ellen and didn't care for it. Kara only liked it because Michelle had listened to Kara's advice and performaed better than last week. Me: I need more to go on.
My second favourite of the night, Lily Scott, was up next, singing: 'A Change is Going to Come' by Sam Cooke. I love how totally confident she is on stage. She knows herself and her strengths and doesn't deviate to be like the next 'clone' singer we hear all the time. This chick is around for the long haul! Of course, all the judges completely agreed with me! (tongue in cheek).
Katelyn Epperly was up next singing and playing the piano for the first time this season. She chose: 'The Scientist' by Cold Play. A very, very slow rendition of this song that nearly put me and Ellen to sleep. Ellen was so sleepy in fact, that she called the great big white piano a guitar! This was a priceless moment when we desperately needed one.
Another naturally confident singer, Paige Miles, was next singing: 'Walk Away' by an Idol original, Kelly Clarkson. She has an impressive voice with crazy range, but again, there was something lacking. Most of the judges liked the performance but didn't like the song choice for her. Simon thought it was forgettable and I have to agree. When I have to wait till the end of the show, where they do the little replays, AND look at my notes to remind me of a performance, it isn't a good sign!
Lastly, we had Siobhan Magnus, singing 'Think' by Aretha Franklin. I'll give her kudos for energy, confidence and hitting really high notes, but not one of my favourites. She'll last another week or two but it won't be long before she's a distant memory. Well, unless she gives herself another mohawk, that is.
Thank you for reading and I encourage you to register and comment. I'm positive not all of you agree with me, so let's hear it Idol fans: it's fun!
- |2010-03-04 18:59:43 yoohoo_gurlProps to Crystal Bowersox on her performance. Its sort of sad that someone so sick sang as wellas and better than, in some cases, girls who were supposedly well. That Haeley Vaughn! C'mon.. are we supposed to believe that your really that sugar sweet all the time? Besides that annoying trate which has nothing to do with her singing ability she over sings every single song. Next! But I have to disagree with you on Katie Stevens. She'll go to top 5 as long as she starts choosing better songs. The judges should leave her alone about the sing youger / sing older thing.
