The Top 4 were mentored by Jamie Fox this week and their theme was to take songs from the movies. Jamie had some interesting strategies to help the contestants.
First, he had t-shirts made---one with the word 'contestant' and the other with 'artist' on it. The idea was that Jamie would give one or the other of the t-shirts to them, depending on the quality of their performance.

Well, it’s another elimination night on American Idol with some surprises and high-caliber entertainment. My first surprise was they changed the 'loser stools' to 'winner stools' so when taking us down to the bottom three, there seemed to be some confusion on the contestants’ faces when Ryan escorted them over to the other side of the stage.

With Harry Connick Jr. as mentor this week and the theme being Frank Sinatra, there was a lot of 'crooning' going on tonight. Some of the Top 5 shone with this theme, and others were very obviously out of their comfort zone. As an artist, I feel you need to have a certain amount of flexibility and enough talent to still have your own style shine through and be convincing at it.
Aaron Kelly started us off with 'Fly Me to the Moon'. As usual he gave his all and it wasn't a bad performance, but as with most of his performances, he just doesn't have enough experience behind his talent to make it completely convincing. For his age, though, he is definitely one of the most talented on that stage.

One more off the top

It’s country week on American Idol. So, to start off tonight's elimination round we heard from Rascal Flats singing, 'Unstoppable', followed by a behind-the-scenes look at the Idol's newest Ford commercial. They were made over into Vampires and Michael Lynch was their intended victim. I found it very cute and entertaining.

Country, Rock and Pop-Shania Twain is the biggest 'crossover' artist in our generation and this week's mentor for the 'Top 6'. After tonight's show I also think she was one of the best mentors as she seemed to bring out the best in all of the contestants. So much so that the judges and the critics on the internet think its going to be a very difficult elimination round tomorrow.
