House fire leads police to grow op near McLeese Lake
| News |
On December 27, 2009 the Williams Lake RCMP responded to a structure fire on a property north of McLeese Lake on Highway 97 near Edmunds Road.
The officer attending the fire discovered that the structure that was burning contained a marijuana grow operation. While checking for the owner of the building, a male was spotted by the officer and fled on foot. The police service dog was dispatched, however, the male eluded police and remains at large.
While on the property, officers made observations that there was likely marijuana growing in two other buildings on the same property.
On December 28, 2009 officers returned to the residence and executed a search warrant. Over 500 marijuana plants were seized from two buildings on the property. During the search, officers gathered evidence identifying the person responsible for the grow operation. A warrant will be sought for the person(s) responsible.
