It all started with a jewelry kit that 9-year-old Faith Frost got for her birthday. She and her 6-year-old sister, Gracie, assembled a few pair of earrings and decided on a project that would take them far beyond accessorizing.
Grace and Faith have a live-in grandmother who is a breast cancer survivor, and her courage and strength inspired the girls to make earrings and sell them at school to raise money for cancer research.
They sell them at a table during lunch at school and have raised more than $180 since September. Their mom, Nancy Frost, said that the girls are very fast at making the one-of-a-kind earrings and love the creativity of the project.
“We do a lot of shopping at Dollar Dollar Downtown for beads,” Nancy said. “When Darryl at the Bead Box heard about their project, she donated five packs of beads to Grace and Faith---the girls were absolutely thrilled by that,” Nancy said.
“I love to work with red beads and put them with colours like pink and purple,” Gracie said. “We sell them for $1 a pair and our grandma wears some of them. I would really like to raise a thousand dollars or more!”
Faith said that the first pair of earrings they sold went to their aunt. “It's fun to make them, and we might sell some next year at craft fairs,” she explained. “When my grandma put on her earrings she was so happy, she cried.”
“Our whole family is so proud of the girls,” Nancy said. “They amaze us daily. This has been a lesson for all of---we learn from our kids. They take our breath away with their creativity and their giving.”
