Last week representatives from TNG, Amarc Resources and the provincial government met at Scum Lake to discuss the on-site exploratory drilling project. As a result of the discussion, TNG chiefs consented to the completion of the exploratory drilling project.
Sean Magee from Amarc Resources said that that this meeting at the lake gave them the opportunity to show the assembled group the progress of the project, well as the practices they have in place to protect resources. “It was a very positive day, with a lot of questions and discussion,” he explained. “It gave us a chance to discuss exactly what we’re doing and the care we’re taking.”
He stated that at an additional meeting at the Stone Indian Band office later in the day, the TNG stated their position---that they are concerned with the permit process, and added that the chiefs consented to Aramarc’s drilling of the 14th hole, completing their exploratory project for the year.
This week, while the exploratory drilling was in its final stage, there were observers from TNG on site at Scum Lake.
Sean said that the drilling project at Scum Lake was a very preliminary stage. “That property has been drilled in the past---our intent was to advance the previous drilling and see if there was sufficient mineralization for future potential.
“We want to be as respectful as possible,” he continued. “We followed a government-prescribed procedure, and once we received the permits, we contacted the Stone Band and the TNG to introduce ourselves and to let them know what we were all about.
“We do intend to bring permit applications forward for another program in 2010, and have confidence that the process will be handled differently next time---that the TNG will be much more involved with the project,” he concluded. “Our goal is always to build positive relationships with First Nations groups.”
