Smart cards required for bulk water station at Stampede Grounds
| News |
The ‘Smart Card Bulk Water Dispensing System’ at the Stampede Grounds is ready for public use. Located next to the sani-station near the main entrance, the new water station uses a ‘smart card’ system that requires users to pre-purchase credits for bulk water on a reusable card at the front desk of City Hall.
Users can access water by swiping the card any time of the day or night, and get a remaining card balance. When the credits are used up, users can take the card back to City Hall and purchase additional credits.
Cards are free, but a fee of $12 will be charged for lost or stolen cards, and the cost of water is $0.01 per litre.
With the new station at the Stampede Grounds, the City will no longer have to service water haulers at the municipal works yard. Motivation for the new system originated from the wildfires in 2010 when the City needed a 24-hour system for bulk water haulers.
Users, amounts and times are recorded in a transaction log and there is a water meter. There will be two sizes of water connections for dispensing water. The sani-station will be restricted to the fill of recreational vehicles, and water haulers and other users requiring water will be required to use the new bulk station.
