Halloween magic fills the aisles at Dollar Dollar DowntownBy LeRae Haynes

Halloween magic fills the aisles at Dollar Dollar Downtown, where customers can not only access hundreds of costumes and find decorations, fireworks and ‘fright-night’ accessories, but can also experience a level of exceptional customer service that brings them back year-round.

Carl Johnson, co-owner of Dollar Dollar Downtown has built 10 Dollar Stores throughout BC, and said that he is proud of Williams Lake’s downtown area. “That’s where the community starts,” he explained. “Our store is all about ‘fun’ and ‘creativity,’ and making sure that we provide products that the community needs.”

Two large groups in the Cariboo that benefit from Dollar Dollar Downtown are crafters and artists. “We have one of the largest bead and bead supply departments in BC,” he explained. “I bring in high quality Checkoslovakian glass press beads, and also encourage customers to make specific requests for what they need.”

Carl said that the store is one of the main suppliers for Kopp Gallery, and that artists can find 15 different sizes of quality, stretched canvases and paint supplies at reasonable prices. He also explained that when scrap booking became very popular about eight years ago, he started expanding his scrapbook supply section. Today it is 20 feet long, filled with treasures for every beginner or seasoned scrap booker.

Dollar Dollar Dowtown is a dollar store with a difference, combining quality with affordability. They are the main wedding supply place in town, and also sell housewares, home décor and a new complete line of quality cosmetics made in North America, jewelry, toys and seasonal decorations to suit any occasion.

Shoppers can look forward to a high quality wedding and party cake bake ware and accessories coming soon to Dollar Dollar. “With the Wilton line, you’ll be able to rent the cake pans and get everything you need to bake and decorate,” Carl explained.

He said that daily sales at the store include greeting cards and phone cards. “With our phone cards people can phone the Punjab for two cents a minute,” he continued.  “We also have a large electronics section where you can get phone and computer cords, connectors and accessories at a fraction of the price in other stores.”

Other items at the store include unique, western-themed pictures, baby supplies, school and office supplies and pet supplies. “We keep a book of items that our customers would like us to bring in----we’re like Eaton’s used to be,” he said. “If we don’t have what you need on the shelf, you can browse our 20,000 page catalogue and we’ll get it for you.”

At Dollar Dollar Downtown you can find things you need, things you love and things that are hard to find. “Whether you need Christmas decorations in July or an obscure beading accessory, we will get it for you,” he continued. “As one of our customers says, ‘if you can’t find it here, you don’t need it.’”

Customer satisfaction is second nature at Dollar Dollar, and the fast, friendly service ensures that whether you want to place an order for a big event, find the perfect costume for Halloween or browse for a Christmas gift on your lunch hour, you’ve come to the right store.

Dollar Dollar Downtown is located at 83-A 2nd Avenue and is open 6 days a week. For more information, phone 250-398-5121.
