The morning of October 29th, 2009, marked the first major snowfall of the season in the Williams Lake area. As expected, road conditions were very treacherous due to the wet snow and icy conditions. Throughout the day, the Williams Lake RCMP responded to multiple rollover accidents and multi-vehicle collisions that occurred. In the most serious case, 4 people were hospitalized after a two vehicle collision on hwy 97 near the Greyhound bus depot.

The majority of the accidents can be attributed to drivers driving to fast for the road conditions or having inadequate snow tires. Police are urging drivers to slow down and use extreme caution when driving in the winter conditions. Snow tires are recommended for all vehicles for the rest of the winter season.

Drivers are also reminded that when passing an accident scene with emergency services on scene, they are required to slow to 70 kms/hr or they could be fined under the Motor Vehicle Act.
