Man assaulted in Wildwood sustains serious injuries

Over the weekend Williams Lake RCMP responded to 79 calls for service. Alcohol was the precursor for what turned out to be a very busy Saturday evening. Police conducted a traffic check stop where 30 to 40 were vehicles were checked; two drivers were found to be under the influence of alcohol and their licenses were suspended for a period of 24 hours.
During the early morning police responded to two assault incidents. In the first occurence a female was assaulted by another female. The woman responsible for the assault was arrested and later released to appear in court at a later date. The second more serious assault happened at a residence in Wildwood and the victim was taken to Cariboo Memorial hospital due to the seriousness of the injuries. In both cases names are being withheld pending further investigation and possible charges.
One male was arrested for breach of his probation order not to be within 100 km of Williams Lake subject was held in custody pending charges.
There were two incidents of vandalism to private vehicles reported in the area of Dodwell Street and Broughton Street. In both cases it appeared that someone had jumped on the hood of the vehicles causing damage.
RCMP received a report of two teens spray painting the water tower in the vicinity of Haddock Street. Patrols were made by police, however the culprits were not located.
Saturday was also a busy night at some liquor establishments. Police arrested people as a result of complaints of disturbances in the vicinity of the Overlander Pub. Most were held in custody for being intoxicated and were later released.
Some items including a fire pump, air compressor, two power saws, a weed whacker and various tools were stolen from Springfield Ranch. The matter is still under investigation.
During the early hours of Sunday morning, police received a report that a male had smashed the window of a vehicle parked behind the Canada Post Office and stole some items from the vehicle. Police responded and subsequently took a well known male suspect into custody. He as later released to appear in court at a later date.
Police responded to a complaint of toolboxes having been stolen from a vehicle on Pigeon Avenue during the early morning hours. No suspects were identified.
Later in the day on Sunday, police received a report of a break-in at Deni House at the Cariboo Memorial Hospital. Someone had smashed a glass door to gain entry to the premises. It did not appear that anything was taken, and the facility is currently unoccupied as it undergoes renovations. No suspects were identified.
"The warmer weather and extended daylight hours bring more people out-and-about," says Staff Sergeant Warren Brown. "Keeping your doors locked to houses, buildings, sheds and vehicles will discourage opportunistic thieves." The Williams Lake RCMP would like to remind residents to keep an eye out for one another. "If you observe suspicious or unusual activity, you are encouraged to phone the Williams Lake detachment at (250) 392-6211 or 911 for emergencies."
