Williams Lake hosted the Cariboo Amateur Hockey league Bantam ice breaker tournament at the Cariboo Memorial Complex from Sep 25-27The ice breaker tournament is an opportunity for the rep teams of the Cariboo to play games against each other to measure the level of competition and to allow coaches to assess players before making final cuts to teams. The associations of the Cariboo are ranked from Tier 1 to Tier 4. Depending on the number of male players registered in PeeWee and above the association can register initial rep teams in one of the four tiers. Teams from Prince George, Quesnel, and Wiliams Lake participated in the tournament. As Prince George is a large association their intial rep team is classified as a Tier 1. However, they can also register subsequent teams at lower tiers. Prince George has registered Tier 2 and Tier 3 teams within the Bantam division.

These two teams participated in the Bantam ice breaker. Quesnel and Williams Lake are smaller associations and their initial rep teams are registered as Tier 2. The Prince George Bantam Tier 1 team will not play games against Williams Lake and Quesnel. 100 Mile House is also part of the Cariboo league, but did not have enough interested players to register a team. The action last weekend started with a game between Williams Lake and Quesnel on Friday night. The two teams were evenly matched. In the end Williams Lake came out on top by a 4-2 score. On Saturday morning Wiliams Lake played the Prince George Tier 2 team. This was another close game with Prince George prevailing by a score of 5-4. Williams Lake played again Saturday evening against the Prince George Tier 3 team. This game was more lopsided as the higher tier Williams Lake team defeated Prince George 7-2. A rematch between Williams Lake and Prince George Tier 2 took place on Sunday morning. The ice breaker tournament in Williams Lake was an opportunity for the rep teams of the Cariboo to play games against each other to measure the level of competition and to allow coaches to assess players before making final cuts to teams.

This time WIlliams Lake was able to avenge the Saturday morning loss by coming out on top 4-2. The weekend revealed compettion between the three Tier 2 teams (PG, WL, & Que) was close. This should make for some very competitive games throughout the season.
