Cariboo Regional District – The results of the Cariboo Regional District’s Referendum held on Saturday September 26, 2009 are now official. The referendum was held to determine if residents in portions of CRD Electoral Areas D and E wished to have the Williams Lake Fringe Fire Protection Phase Two as a new service to them.
“I am pleased with the referendum results,” said Area E Director Steve Mazur. “The five information meetings and mailing went a long way to ensuring the public had a sound basis upon which to make an informed decision."
"Knowledge is Power", stated Area D Director Deb Bischoff. "Providing the taxpayer with information enabling them to make a well informed decision at the ballot box is very important to me. Thank you to all the people participating in the informational meetings and casting your vote at the advance polls and on September 26.”
A total of 181 residents voted in favour of the Williams Lake Rural Fringe Fire Protection Phase Two service while 28 people opposed the proposal for a total voter turnout of 209.
