Fort Saint John, BC - Fort St. John RCMP are continuing to investigate the shooting of a 22 year Fort St. John male that occurred just after 4:00 am on Monday, August 24, 2009. The victim of the shooting suffered serious, but non-life threatening injuries to his upper body. He has since been transferred out of Fort St. John in order to received ongoing medical care.

Members of the Regional Serious Crime Unit and the Fort St. John Drug Section are actively investigating this offense. These members have been interviewing witnesses and following up on information submitted by the public.

At this time, RCMP believe that this shooting was an intended attack on persons suspected of being involved in the drug trade. The motive for this shooting has not been determined and police have not identified the persons responsible. It is believed that a suspect vehicle was in the area of 95 Street and 99 Avenue prior to the shooting, but have yet to establish a clear description of this vehicle. Investigators have spoken with several persons who do not wish to cooperate with this investigation. Police believe that this has inevitably lead to delays in identifying the person(s) responsible for this attack.

RCMP have not located all the persons whom they believe may have been present when this shooting occurred and who may have information that could assist in identifying the suspects. No further details regarding what actually occurred can be released until RCMP have exhausted their efforts to speak with all witnesses.
