Quesnel man presumed drowned in Gavin Lake

Gavin Lake, BC - A 71 year old Quesnel man is still missing and presumed drowned at Gavin Lake.
On August 21, 2009 at approximately 5 pm, the Williams Lake RCMP received a report of a missing person at Gavin Lake, near Likely, BC. A 71 year old man from Quesnel had been canoeing on Gavin Lake when a storm came in. The man was last seen in his canoe at approximately 1:30 pm on Gavin Lake. His canoe was later located partly submerged near the shoreline and a life jacket was located further along the shoreline.
RCMP Police Dog Services and the Provincial Emergency Program Search and Rescue personnel (Central Cariboo Search and Rescue) attended to conduct a search of the area. An RCMP Air Services helicopter was brought in to assist with an aerial search. The RCMP Dive Team attended however advised that due to the condition and composition of the lake, they were unable to assist.
As of August 26, 2009 the missing man had not yet been located and the coordinated search has been completed. It is believed that the man has drowned. The Williams Lake RCMP assisted by the Central Cariboo Search and Rescue Team will be making periodic searches over the next few weeks in efforts for a recovery.
