Sophisticated $5M grow operation busted near Williams Lake

On Friday afternoon, the North District Drug Section and members of the Williams Lake General Investigation Section executed a search warrant on a suspected marijuana grow operation in the Spokin Lake area and discovered a very large marijuana growing farm.
The 9,000 plants seized, worth an estimated $5million dollars, were housed in a structure built specifically for the purpose of growing.
Related growing equipment was also seized, including two large diesel generators which were fuelled by two 1,500 gallon tanks. The equipment is estimated to be worth approximately half a million dollars.
Five Asian males with identification linking them to the Lower Mainland were arrested at this location without incident and will be facing charges under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.
This grow operation had the capacity and potential to yield upwards of $15 million per year and is likely the most sophisticated grow seen in recent times in the Williams Lake area.
Police believe that there are likely many of these grows in our outlying rural communities and encourage our neighbours and communities at large to have a zero-tolerance for this menace. "We at the Williams Lake detachment will to continue to confront and aggressively challenge those who wish to relocate to our communities for this purpose and will support those who take a stance against this illegal activity by reporting their suspicions to the police," advised Staff Sergeant Warren Brown.
