Police investigate sudden death of a man in Williams Lake

On April 21 at approximately 7:00pm, Williams Lake RCMP received a complaint of an intoxicated male in the Denny's Restaurant parking lot. Police attended and arrested a man for Causing a Disturbance.
The male was too intoxicated to care for himself and was subsequently lodged in cells.
Shortly after being put in cells, police observed that the man was breathing at a reduced rate and called BC Ambulance Services. The man was released from custody and escorted to Cariboo Memorial Hospital by ambulance. The man was assessed at the hospital and released shortly after midnight.
On April 22, at approximately 8:00am, the Williams Lake RCMP received a complaint of a male passed out in the hallway of an apartment building on Clearview Crescent. Police arrived at the apartment and found an unresponsive male in the hallway. It was determined that it was the same man who had been in cells the night before, taken to hospital and then released. BC Ambulance Service attended and transported the man to Cariboo Memorial Hospital. Shortly after his arrival at the hospital, the man was pronounced dead.
An autopsy was performed on April 23 at Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops to determine the cause of death.
The Williams Lake RCMP, North District Regional General Investigation Section and the BC Coroner's Service are continuing to investigate this matter.
