032910_libraryThe Cariboo Regional District Library (CRDL) Williams Lake Branch is pleased to announce its first ever free web-based tutorial, in conjunction with Thompson Rivers University Library Centre.

On Tuesday April 6, 7:00-8:30pm, a free tutorial is scheduled to teach the public how to use Overdrive eAudioBooks at the Thompson Rivers University Library Centre at 1250 Western Avenue.

Overdrive eAudioBooks allows CRDL patrons to download and listen to best selling, classic and children’s audio books on personal PCs, laptops, PDAs or MP3 players at home, or anywhere in the world, and at any time of day.  The collection boasts over 4400 audiobook titles, and over 2800 ebooks and is provided to the CRDL by BC Public Libraries: Your Library without Walls.

The tutorial will provide instruction and hand on experience:

·        Checking out and placing holds on audio and ebooks

·        Downloading, installing, and playing audiobooks with the Overdrive Media Console

·        Searching the Overdrive eAudioBooks  database for titles and authors

·        Distinguishing between types of formats available for playing audiobooks  and reading ebooks (ie Burning to CD, WMA, iPOD, MP3, Adobe EPUB)

It is recommended patrons bring headphones, and any portable audio devices they may wish to download audiobooks to (ie. blank CDS, ipod with USB cable).

The tutorial will be led by Christina Nilsen, Librarian for Thompson Rivers University, at Williams Lake, with assistance and marketing provided by Caroline Derksen, Area Librarian at the CRDL Williams Lake Branch.

This is the first collaborative endeavor between the Thompson Rivers University Library and the Cariboo Regional District Library to provide adult services to the community of Williams Lake.
