A large crowd gathered in the upper level of Boitanio Mall this afternoon to cheer at the car races for the Beavers, Cubs and Scouts. The competition was based on original design as well as speed, and the crowd cheered wildly on the sidelines for the high-speed action.

Master of Ceremonies for the afternoon event was 150 Mile House leader Mike Pilato, who contributed high-energy commentary and organizational skills to the exciting competition.

This popular event is an opportunity for kids to exercise ingenuity in designing their own vehicles to race. Creativity and imagination run wild, setting the scene for the high-speed races themselves.

One parent of a Beaver reported that, although his son was less than pleased with his buggy on the actual race track, he was very proud of its design.

Cubs, Scouts and Beavers and their leaders sported uniforms for the event, and a large crowd of parents, friends and families gathered to cheer on the winners.

Mike Pilato said a special thank you to sponsors for the event and handed out gift certificates from Denny’s and Flavours Ice Cream to the club leaders to thank them for their hard work and dedication.
