The Williams Lake  Daybreak Rotary Club is in the mall this week raising money to support local charities through its annual used book sale.

Bill Carruthers from the club said that this is the 19th year that the book sale has been in operation and that they have raised $120,000 in that time.

"The money is all reinvested in the community and goes to support all kinds of programs," he stated. "People apply to Daybreak Rotary and the Executive approves the applications. We've helped with things like Gavin Lake, the community skating rink in Big Lake and various First Nations groups."

He explained that Daybreak Rotary's support is mainly geared toward children and seniors. "At the used book sale we charge a dollar a book, and we will raise close to $5,000 this year. You can get a whole bag of books for $15," he continued.

The books at the sale are all donated, mainly through boxes placed in businesses throughout the community. "It's a great recycling program: when people are moving or downsizing, they can donate books to a great cause," Bill said.

He said that the sale will continue this week until the mall closes on Saturday, and that shoppers can find a wide range of books for any taste. "We have travel, classics, novels---we have a bit of everything."
